tech remark:
When we use nickel plating additives daily, the coating occasionally appears slight pinholes and pitting phenomenon, which will affect the performance of the coating to a certain extent. And what causes this phenomenon?
Bigley Technology according to the field experience and the characteristics of the product to do analysis, nickel layer pinholes, pitting phenomenon mainly has these four reasons:
1. Too little wetting agent in the bath. The hydrogen bubbles produced in the electroplating process stay on the cathode surface, and the nickel ions are deposited around the hydrogen bubbles with low discharge continuously, and the nickel layer gradually thickens. When the nickel layer is too thick to withstand the hydrogen bubble, the bubble will automatically burst, and the bubble part that is not deposited into the nickel layer will appear pits, that is, we say pinholes or pockmarks.
2, filter pump has air.In the plating tank of non-continuous filtration, there may be air in the filter pump, and when the plating solution does not discharge the residual air in the pump during filtration, this air will be brought into the plating solution with the filter pump and become bubbles on the coating, so that the coating is also prone to pinholes or pitting.
3. There are organic impurities such as oil in the coating. These organic impurities, which do not have the ability to conduct electricity, will adhere to the surface of the workpiece, which will cause nickel ions to be unable to discharge on the surface of the workpiece.Where organic impurities are not adhered to, the coating will continue to deposit and thicken, so that the coating will form pitted pinholes or pitting spots.
4, the iron ion content is too high. When there are still pitting spots after the plating solution is adjusted with wetting agent, it is necessary to consider whether the iron ion content of the plating solution is too high.Iron ions in the bath will form a colloidal, filtration is difficult to remove, it will adhere to the surface of the workpiece, so that the coating appears pitting.
Therefore, the nickel plating layer pinholes or pitting phenomenon may be caused by the above four reasons, in the production process, can find out the cause of the fault as soon as possible, can reduce the fault loss, but also better use of nickel plating additives.
